Adventure 01 - The Murderer's Trail

On a cloudy autumn evening, you gathered at the gate to enter the great city of Ptolus. A broken cart had stalled the front of the line, giving you a chance to take in some of those around you: two strange men in long leather coats, a nervous, twitchy man with bloodshot eyes who looked especially eager to enter, and then, a boy of about 14, who came up to talk to you.

Iltumar Shon introduced himself as the son of the owner of the Bull & Bear Armory and as a part-time employee of Ebbert's Outfitters. Both of these establishments were in Delver's Square - the center of activity for those looking for adventure.

As you spoke to Iltumar, Malkeen Balacazar and his bodyguard passed, easily bypassing the line and the guards at the front. He was clearly someone that commanded great respect, or fear.

Once inside the city, you made your way to Midtown to find Delver's Square and the Ghostly Minstrel Inn. On your way there, you heard the scream of a woman down an alley. Running to her aid, you defeated the two thugs that had attacked her. They wore two-fingered rings that, you learned, indicated they were members of the Pale Dogs. A note pointed to a follow-up meeting two days later. You escorted the woman, Fae Quartermain, to her home and then proceeded to the inn.

The next day you met Ebbert, of Ebbert's Outfitters and again met up with Iltumar. You also spoke with Brother Fabitor of St. Gustov's, affiliated with the Church of Lothian. None could understand a reason for the attack, though you learned Br. Fabitor suspected she was with child. Fae would not confirm this, and became upset whenever you asked her about her suitor.

You staked out the warehouse where the follow-up meeting was to occur. You saw two men enter after hours, and, using some diversionary tactics, gained the jump on them. You kept one alive for questioning. Under pain inflicted by Yasin, he confessed to be working for one Toridan Cran. He had paid the Pale Dogs to kill Fae, and then intended to kill them when they arrived to collect their payout. He did not know the reason for the hit. After some deliberation, you let the man go.

Again confronting Fae, she still revealed nothing, nor even seemed to believe what you said was true. You spoke with Brother Fabitor again, and when you seemed hesitant to continue to pursue Toridan, he offered a future free healing service to each of you, which you accepted.

Finally, you made your way to the house of Toridan Cran. He was not the criminal mastermind he was made out to be; his hideout was simply a small house. With surprise on your side you burst in, and although injured in the battle, you beat Toridan and his two henchman. You wanted to interrogate Toridan, but when he attempted to escape, Yasin put a knife in him.

Searching his house you found some valuables and a ledger that seemed to list some of his "accounts". In it was a payment by a "Methul Watcher" and Fae's name. This was apparently who hired him...

...there however, the trail grows cold. None of your contacts thus far, including Fae herself, know anyone named "Methul". You could pay for a search of city records, but this may cost more than you have available.
